SPT Uniforms is committed to minimising the impact of its activities on the environment.
The key points of its strategy to achieve this are:
- 1) Minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible.
- 2) Minimise toxic emissions through the selection and use of its fleet.
- 3) Actively promote recycling both internally and amongst its customers and suppliers.
- 4) Source and promote a product range to minimise the environmental impact of both production and distribution.
1) We need to achieve that eventually we will not need to dispose of any waste. This however is a few years away while suppliers continue to invest into recyclable materials and local governments are able to collect and be able to recycle all types of materials and products. Our waste is to the minimum we can currently achieve and while technology improves we can continue to reduce our waste. Everything that we can currently recycle is sent to the appropriate facility.
2) Diesel emissions are a highly toxic product and the fleet of van’s we use are modern low emission diesel vans. The new fleet is continually monitored and servicing is continually updated so we are sure that we are keeping to a minimum our diesel emissions. We use route planners with our sat navs to calculate the minimum distance between deliveries. While technology improves and new electric vans come more affordable our final aim is to achieve a fleet of electric vans.
3) We are passionate about recycling and we can make a difference to the environment. Our blazers contain between 6 and 12 2lt plastic bottles. The plastic bottles are from recyclable or failed plastic bottled from manufacture source we use these to make the material for the outer material in our Delta blazers. Currently to date we have used over 575,000 plastic bottles! We continually look at the materials in all our products to see where we can use recyclable materials and when economics and supply chains can continuously support the manufacturing. Our aim is to supply all our products with recyclable materials as technology and the desire of manufacturers, suppliers and customers demand recyclable products then our true aim will be achieved.
4) Packaging in distribution from manufacturing to customers is where we are continually looking at ways we can reuse or recycle. Cardboard boxes are reused and when they are no longer suitable we recycle the cardboard with our local authority. Last season we sent to recycle over 1.5 tonnes of cardboard. Some of the plastic packaging we use is recycled where supported by local recycling facilities. We try to minimise the packing as we can however we have to make sure all our products arrive with our customers in good order. We use recyclable mail bags and carrier bags in our retail shop and pop up shops.
We believe if we can make a small difference then together we can all make a difference to our environment.
